Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ BC Racing Coilovers

Coilovers are the best smiles per dollar mod you can do for your 86/BRZ (yes even more than a turbo kit or tune). Out of the box the 86/BRZ platform is actually pretty slow to react, and suffers from way too much understeer for a fun RWD car. A properly dialled in set of coilovers will fix all of that, and make it look better in the process!

BC Racing offers a wide selection of coilovers to suit your daily driver all the way up to your track only race car. Over the years of installing setting up 86/BRZs I've picked up a couple key things that will help each owner get the best out of their 86/BRZ.

The variations offered by plus08 are the most common and recommended versions of the BC line up. All kits are ordered in so please expect up to 2-3 weeks turn around time.

Firstly, All the kits I recommend come with the pillow ball Front Camber Tops. The adjustable camber tops can be dialled in to liven up the front end and increase overall driving enjoyment! If you are worried about increase in NVH I can guarantee you won't feel the difference between the rubber mount and pillow ball mount. The main part that'll affect NVH, is your tyres.

All BC Racing coilovers come with 30 levels of Dampening (Compression/Rebound) adjustment from a Monotube, CNC Aluminium Shock paired with springs made from SAE9254 steel. The below variations change in shock absorber technology and spring rates, there is a description of recommended use below.

BC Racing V1-VA Standard Kit

• Front Spring: 62-170-5 
• Rear Spring: 62-180-5 

The V1 is BCs most basic coilover however it still offers smooth dampening to handle the suburban streets. I recommend this kit to owners whose goal is to simply lower their daily and does not care to take their car to the track or push their car hard. The 5k springs offer a compliant ride whilst still being stiff enough to improve handling. The lowest I would go on this kit is the blue 1st Gen 86 or white 2nd Gen 86. This set is not recommended for owners that want to drive low and tuck tyre or see lots of track time.

BC Racing BR-RA Standard Kit

• Front Spring: 62-170-5 
• Rear Spring: 62-180-5 

The BR series coilovers improve on the V1s Shock Technology and offer better dampening performance. This results in more control, feedback and confidence when pushing the car harder in the corners and over bumps. This is the kit I recommend to owners who like to take their daily driver out into the mountains or wish to occasionally head on track. The 5k springs offer a compliant ride whilst still being stiff enough to improve handling. The lowest I would go on this kit is the blue 1st Gen 86 or white 2nd Gen 86. This set is not recommended for owners that want to drive low and tuck tyre.

BC Racing BR-RA PLUS08 Custom Kit

The following kits are for recommended for owners whose cars are their weekend street/track/show car. They want the best of both worlds, Form and Function. Please note down which kit you'd like at check out, or just email/message me with your order number as reference.

Aggressive Track/Low Street Car

Recommended if you'd like a ride height close to the dark blue/grey 86 on silver 326 wheels. 

Aggressive Drift/Low Stance Car

Recommended if you'd like a ride height similar to the dark blue/grey 86 on silver 326 wheels. 

Static Show Car

Recommended if you'd like a ride height similar to the white 1st BRZ tS with Work VSKFs

BC Racing DS-DA Standard Kit

• Front Spring: 62-140-5 
• Rear Spring: 62-160-5

The DS series incorporates a silver shock with Digressive Valving. This is a fancier form of valving over the BR series and has distinctly different fast and slow speed valve rates compared to the BR series. What does this translate to? Well it means the car is able to react firmer to fast transitions and weight transfers whilst still offering a compliant ride over bumps. This translates into a high performing, more confidence inspiring ride (when setup correctly). I describe it as a coilover that allows you to not have to think and read the road as much, and allows you to point the car where you want it with as much confidence as possible. The 5k springs offer a compliant ride whilst still being stiff enough to improve handling. The lowest I would go on this kit is the blue 1st Gen 86 or white 2nd Gen 86. This set is not recommended for owners that want to drive low and tuck tyre. BC Racing DS-DA PLUS08 Custom Kit

This is where we will need to have discussion about what spring rate will best suit your application. Message or Email me through the contact page or through my website and we will determine what works best for your car. My recommendation is to purchase this if you would like to develop a purpose built car to take your driving skills to the next level (Grip/Drift/AutoX). I don't recommend this for stance applications, opt for the BR-RA.
